Ghost!Kiku x Reader - Chapter 3

I ended up losing my journal for a couple days. I just found it sitting on the floor in between some crates in the far back of the room a few minutes ago, so I'm not sure. How many days have gone by, I don't know.

The chanting has stopped ever since I went to the back of the room. Maybe it only starts up when I'm closer to the door? I guess I'll just sit back here then, but most of my supplies are up near the front of the room, so I can't just starve myself to stop that guy's chanting.

(Name) returned to her house and kicked off her shoes to the side of the door, then stopped before going anywhere.

'I wonder if I should clean up the kitchen? I can't eat in the dark, but I also don't want to be looking at that every time I do turn on the lights...'

Just thinking about the kitchen made her stomach churn, it was so terrifying! She had to man up though and face what will probably be the last minutes of her life if whatever did it tried to do it again.

With a nod of reassurance, the girl managed to push herself towards the kitchen on trembling legs. Her steps were small, but it was definitely a start to conquering another one of her fears!

(Name) reached around for the lights once in the kitchen and pinched the switch in between her fingers nervously. The lights flicked on when she drew in a deep breath and lifted her hand.

The kitchen was entirely clean.

'Now this is even more scary! I swear, I wasn't imagining it... It was all there, I could even smell it... Sounds creepy, but it was true! Where did it all go?'

(Name) wiped her face with both hands in an attempt to get a hold of the situation.

'Okay, so, what happened so far? I called up a chick's number that no longer exists and made an offer on a house that has an 85% chance of being haunted. I heard breathing and footsteps on the first day. My friend left in a rush and I haven't heard a word from her after that night. It's been about a week since then and everything seemed normal! Yesterday, I met Wang Yao, the suspicious Chinese man that lives next door, and suddenly discovered my kitchen heinously covered in fresh blood after coming back from an egg run. All the doors were locked right after that, so I slept out in the hallway and almost froze. My new heater wouldn't work, so I went over to Yao's house for breakfast and a warm up. He didn't answer my questions at all and ended up going silent when I tried to ask. Now I come back to a sparkly clean kitchen with no blood leftover and nothing creepy going on.'

(Name) narrowed her eyes after doing a recount in her head.

'This house has to be haunted, or I'm insane and imagining everything.'

The girl went upstairs and into the master bedroom, looking around to make sure nothing was going to pop out at her. She figured this would be the best place to test something. She put her hands around her mouth and took a deep breath.

“Oiii! Ghost, I bet you can hear me right now!” (Name) yelled, waiting for a bit after she said that to make sure that if the ghost was there, its attention would be on her. She was almost sure that she felt a stare on her. “Now that I got your attention...”

(Name) sat down on the hardwood floor and knocked once, and then twice.

“Answer a few questions for me! One knock for no, two knocks for yes, alright? Simple enough, right?” Heck, the girl didn't even know why she was trying to contact the dang thing, now she was just being stupid.

“First question: You are a ghost, right?”

She waited for a knock, but the entire house was eerily still.

“Alright, maybe you don't know if you're a ghost or not... Second question! Are you the one that put the blood down on the kitchen walls?”

Again, she received no reply. After a couple more unanswered questions, she let out a frustrated groan and stood up. “This is obviously not working at all, fine.. I guess I'll just try later.”

(Name) exits the room and goes down to the kitchen.

“Holy crap, salted salmon man! So glad Dad taught me how to make this,” (Name) said, laughing and sitting down with her plate full of the dinner she made. It felt as if someone were staring at her as she got comfortable in her chair. She picked up her fork and started to cut in to the meal, stuffing the bites in her mouth and chewing slowly, as to savor the flavor before it was too late.

It didn't take too long, but she was almost done with her salmon and looked up, a bit bored from just staring at the fishy plate for the past ten minutes. A dark figure in the corner of the kitchen caught her eye.

She turned her head and the figure flickered away, but then she noticed it pop up in the hall right afterward in the corner of her eye.

(Name) stuffed the rest of the salmon in her mouth and stumbled out of her chair, turning around to follow the ghost.

Now that I think about it, I have no idea what made me want to follow that thing around. I guess it just felt natural to do it at the time.

(Name) sprinted up the stairs as the figure flickered away with every bit of progress that she made. It went right past the master bedroom door and ignored the halls leading to other simple rooms.

She noticed that it went straight for the third floor stairs, to which she almost caught it, but it suddenly appeared halfway up the stairs and stared at her with such soulless eyes.

(Name) stopped at the foot of the stairs and stared upwards into the abyss.
